Tirso Valley is the perfect place for Vernaccia production.
HEART OF SARDINIA
Vernaccia is perfectly suited in the intimate and selective territory of Tirso Valley, in the heart of Sardinia - Italy
This cultivation environment allows grapes to mature slowly, contributing significantly to conferring particular organoleptic characteristics on wine.
Alluvial natural areas, deep and fertile, primarily limo-sandy matrix, with morphological and lithological diversity.
Everything here around contributes to create something unique and unrepeatable, closely linked to the territory, subject to small and exclusive variables
Tirso Valley
Tirso Valley is the perfect place for Vernaccia production: Alluvial and fertile land, the proximity of the sea, Montiferru and Monte Arci mountains all around, waters in large quantities, Humid and fresh western winds in sandy fluence, like the arid and torrential east, Tirso river flowing down the plain to the Mediterranean, leaving down a vast array of debris that shaped and built the Campidano of Oristano for millennia. All this contributes to creating something unique and unrepeatable, closely linked to the territory, dependent on small and exclusive variables that contribute to its perfect success.
Natural Fertility
The soil on which Vernaccia is grown has a wide variety. The alluvial ones closest to Tirso's bed are called Bennaxi and are deep, fresh, limo-sandy matrix, with good natural fertility. Those of the earliest origin instead are called Gregori and are pebbly matrix with a clay-mix. This cultivation environment allows grapes to mature slowly, conferring particular organoleptic characteristics on wine. In the past, Bennaxi was the most cultivated area of Vernaccia, while today cultivation is mainly Gregori, and this has greatly affected the modification of the product characteristics.
Morphological Diversity
It’s all about floody, profound and fertile areas with primarily limo-sandy matrix, which historian and agronomist Felice Cherchi Paba had subdivided into four subclasses due to morphological and lithological diversity and the different organoleptic and qualitative characteristics of wine.
Vernaccia Areas
Vernaccia lives perfectly in the intimate and selective territory of Tirso Valley, in the heart of Sardinia, where exclusivity and tradition are handed down unchanged over time. The historian and agronomist Felice Cherchi Paba has divided the areas where Vernaccia is produced in four sub-zones.
In order of importance these areas are:
• A ZONESolarussa subarea (Solarussa, SIMAXIS, Siamaggiore, Zerfaliu).
• B ZONE
San Vero Milis subarea (San Vero Milis, Zeddiani, Baratili San Pietro, Riola, Nurachi, Tramatza).
• C ZONE
Oristano subarea (Oristano, Cabras, Solanas, Palmas Arborea, Massama, Donigala Fenughedu, Silì, Santa Giusta).
• D ZONE
Ollastra subarea (Ollastra, Siamanna, Villanova Truschedu, San Vero Congius, Siapiccia).
